In 2006, (2006,E3) Legendary Pictures acquired the rights to create a film adaptation of Warcraft, and will be based on the World of Warcraft MMORPG game. On 2007, BlizCon, the film was set to be released in 2009, but instead was moved to 2013 according to IMDB. It was also said that the theme of the movie was to be set on the Alliance perspective one of the factions (not race) base on the Warcraft lore.
Fast forward to today, Legendary Pictures CEO has admitted that they are challenged in adapting Blizzard’s Warcraft franchise for the big screen. He admitted there was a lack of experience when it came to approaching the subject of adapting the franchise for the big screen. They have a hard time in makig a movie about Warcraft with its vast story, war and the races.
The film is expected to begin shooting early next year with the announcement earlier this year that Duncan Jones will be the director, replacing the original director Sam Raimi. Jones is the director for both Moon and Source code movies while the former, Sam Raimi is the director of Oz, Spiderman, and the producer of several TV series like Hercules, Xena and Spartacus.
The film adaptation is said to have more than $100 million to work with, and is slated for a release on 2014 to 2016.
