We all know that, H and B series motherboards aren’t overclock-able boards. Well we are all wrong! Gigabyte and Biostar have announced that overclocking features are available on their non-Z series boards!
It looks like that we also miss that ASRock and ECS have previously announced that overclocking Intel K-Series CPU’s on non-Z series boards is possible. And it looks like more manufacturers are following this capability; Gigabyte and Biostar have also announced that it is possible to overclock, 4th Generation Intel Core K-series processors on their H87 and B85 boards! The barriers of owning a much more expensive Z board is no longer a requirement to overclock a board, you only need a K series CPU from Intel, good cooling system and good flow of power supply.
Gigabyte users will have to get/download a new bios, while Biostar have announced that they just need the users to adjust the CPU ration in the BIOS, though more ore less you would still need a BIOS update.
Ultimately, this would bring down the cost of acquiring a good or better computer for your specific usage. Though, I believe overclocking enthusiasts would still prefer a Z-board than this lower end boards for stability and features; this new innovation might bring your PC budget down, but give you more out of your upgrade, if you are going for an upgrade.
