AMD might be discontinuing the Radeon HD 7990, codenamed “Malta” graphics card by Q3 of this year, the main reason specified was the weak demand.
The HD 7990 is basically 2 HD 7970 put together in a single PCB, with a built-in CrossFire link set up. AMD have been having problems with the frame latency, though it can be fix with the new drivers, these new drivers aren’t out yet. People have expressed their willingness and excitement to buy this monster though with the few bugs that it has, they are holding off an upgrade until its fixed.
It wont be any surprise if the HD7990 will no longer be sold through retails by Septerber, as by October, rumors has it that AMD is pushing out its HD9000 “Volcanic Islands” series.
